Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
